Gunfighter Nation Presents the LA History Project

GF Nation Flyer

Pio Pico, Sam Yorty and the Secret Procession of Los Angeles

A dark meditation on the unseen forces that shape the universe that is El Lay. Historical, feverish, and anarchic –the LA History Project lives in the border regions between apocalypse and epiphany… Pio Pico the early ubiquitous godfather of so cal, and Sam Yorty, the race baiting crafty backroom matador who served to usher in modern  Los Angeles. A dark mass performed over the living corpse of our current necropolis and home.

Written and performed by Gunfighter Nation
Opening September 17th at The Lost Studio, playing Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30pm through October 2nd.

CD+M Lighting & The Happy Magic Water Park at the Olympic Water Cube, Beijing China

cdmI was quite fortunate to be sent to the Beijing on behalf of Ted Ferreira and Patrick Yu at CD+M Design Group to focus and document the grand opening of the Happy Magic Water Park inside the Olympic Water Cube.   It was a distinct privilege and an honor to be involved in such a project, and I would again happily drop everything and head to Asia in a heartbeat if the possibility arose.  Thank you Sunny and Patrick for your kind hospitality and I hope to work with you both again in the future!

Overtone Industries- Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands

After seven years in development, non-profit organization Overtone Industries is set to launch their site-specific theatricale, Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands, with two weeks of performances in Culver City opening Thursday, July 8, 2010. There will also be preview performances the week before the opening. The contemporary opera integrates art installation, dance, voice, live and recorded music, projected video, costuming, community participation, and theater.

Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands takes the audience on a journey with working class Tom and aristocratic Sue, who have lost their identities. The couple reclaims their story by means of a device that allows them to inhabit the “lands” that hold the pivotal experiences of their lives embodied in songs, dances, pledges of allegiance, and rituals indigenous to those turning points.

Songs and Dances of Imaginary Lands was conceptualized by Director O-Lan Jones in an extensive collaboration that involves twenty one librettists, eleven composers, Costume and Scenic Designer Snezana Petrovic, Musical Director David O, and many others.

The performances will run from Thursday, July 8 to Sunday, July 18, 2010 with five weekly performances (Thursdays through Sundays, 8:00 pm nightly with 2:00 pm matinees on Sundays). Additional preview performances will run from Thursday, July 1 to Sunday, July 4, 2010

Cirque Berzerk named recipient of “Downtowner of Distinction” award by Los Angeles Downtown News

WOOT!

Apparently the alpha-dog Downtowner is Distinguished on Feb 22 in a knock down drag out neighborhood 3-3 streetball game, with Cirque Berzerk drawing a tough early round with the newly minted LAPD while Chabad Temple faces down the full wait staff of the Rivera Restaurant at home in South Park.

A Batch of Distinct Downtowners

Published: Friday, January 29, 2010 4:23 PM PST

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – The year 2009 may have been tough for many, but Downtown saw dozens of projects debut.

That led to the naming of 13 recipients of Los Angeles Downtown News’ annual Downtowners of Distinction awards. Winners are chosen by district and are selected for projects that have an impact on the entire neighborhood. The winners are: the High School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Bunker Hill; the Skid Row 3-on-3 Streetball League in Central City East; Cirque Berzerk in Chinatown; the

Police Administrative Building in the Civic Center; the ESPN Headquarters and Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 (a tie) in the Figueroa Corridor; Pershing Square’s Programming in the Financial District; the Rowan Lofts in the Historic Core; the Haas Building and its Chabad of Downtown temple in the Jewelry District; Sakura Crossing in Little Tokyo; Rivera Restaurant in South Park; and the Gold Line Eastside Extension in Union Station/El Pueblo. (Not every Downtown district receives an award every year.) One of those winners will be announced as Project of the Year in the Feb. 22 issue of Downtown News.
